I have a four year old and he’s seen a few ads in kids apps that were less than kid friendly. The reason I’ve chosen to only include apps with no in-app purchases or ads is because, well, I get it. They lack pressure sensitivity, palm rejection and more, but are a good starting point for young artists. Keep in mind that these apps are extremely basic compared to the ones aforementioned, so while they will be easy to use, they will have serious limitations.
